GRAND PRIX GOTHENBURG, SWEDEN >>APRIL 25, 2008
CRUMP FOURTH IN SWEDEN
In one of the most dramatic and controversial events in the history of Speedway, the night finished with a surprising winner in Norwegian Rune Holta, his first victory in 50 attempts.
But the event has come under heavy criticism from the riders and fans for the very poor track surface and several unpopular refereeing decisions.
Australia’s Jason Crump, who added 12 valuable points to his tally and showed some of his best form this year, was out-gunned in the all-important final and finished in fourth place.
“I chose gate three rather than four and that was a bad choice as Holta won from gate four.” said a disappointed Crump. “The organisers decided to water the track before the final which made things worse but I am happy that I made it into the final without incident and managed to get through the night unscathed, not like many of the other riders.”
“Friday’s practice, the track was good, but come Saturday it got worse as the night progressed with several large holes appearing in the corners, and hitting them in full flight caused many crashes. Rider safety was compromised tonight unfortunately.”
Round four of the 2008 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship moves to Copenhagen in Denmark on Saturday 14 June.
