A NIGHT TO FORGET FOR CRUMP

With a less than average result in Slovenia two weeks ago, Jason Crump knew he had to improve his performance at Leszno in Poland to stay in contention in the Championship chase, but it was another night to forget for the double World Champion.

A last place in his first ride and four second place finishes in his remaining heats, gave Crump just enough points to qualify for the semi-final, so his chance to grab even more points was still alive.

But that all came to a shattering halt when Dane Nicki Pedersen fell, with Crump being controversially excluded from the re-run for being the cause of the stoppage, as deemed by the referee.

“My results in the heats were not that good and I’m still missing the starts for some reason.” said the 32- year old.  “And the incident with Pedersen in the semi was just one of those racing accidents and this time it went against me.  But that’s all part of racing; you win some, you lose some.  This time I lost.”
“But I am happy that Leigh Adams won the final and there was a fellow Aussie on top of the podium.  Leigh has ridden for Leszno for 14 years and knows every part of the track, so naturally he started the night as favorite and no-one was going to stop him on the night.”

Round three of the 2008 Speedway Grand Prix World Championship moves to Gothenburg in Sweden on Saturday 24 May.
